Marabeth Quin moved to Nashville, Tennessee from her home state of Arkansas in 1987 and immediately embarked on a career as a studio musician.  For the past 20 years she has worked with some of the most talented musicians in the behind-the-scenes Nashville studio world and sung on projects ranging from movie soundtracks and recordings, to live tours for artists as diverse as Vince Gill, Joan Baez, George Jones, LeeAnn Womack and many others. 
     Eight years ago, in need of a creative opening that had nothing to do with earning a living, she reintroduced herself to her misplaced childhood loves of painting and writing and began once again exploring the images and ideas that have no expectations or distinct purpose attached to them.  As a result, her art has become a space of great autonomy and clarity, as well as pleasure, in her life. 

     She is incredibly blessed with two beautiful children, Jordon and Sophie Salveson, and husband, Casey Quin, who are a constant source of inspiration.

The Process:

"The process that I use for the majority of my work begins with a gesso base in which I build up layers of texture and subject matter.  When that has dried, mulitple layers of diluted acrylic are brushed and splattered on and then sprayed with water to soften the edges and make the colors blend and run.  When the painting is complete, I apply a coat of varnish that deepens the color as if still wet while reaching down and reflecting every layer of transparent paint that was applied; the result is a rich, creamy appearance that is different everytime you look at it."
